This is a happy scene! It appears they are off on vacation! The doll herself looks stunning in her red one piece swimsuit and the poodle looks on in adoration! This beauty made the red swimsuit famous long before ‘Baywatch’ did! During the middle to late 50’s, many ‘Bathing Boys and Girls’ were created. This series was also known as the ‘Ravishing Lovelies’. They were designed with different accessories like inner-tubes, flippers and goggles, also wearing different swimsuits and trunks. They were sold individually or sold as collections, with many bathers shown sitting on a raft looked over by a lifeguard on a tower. This particular doll is signed on the bottom of her foot and the suitcase she is sitting on and the books at her feet are both number registered. She has stunning blond yellow yarn hair. You can see where the ‘figure’ padding is used. Annalee paid special attention to the female doll form during the 50’s and 60’s. This little vignette is in very good condition, considering her age. The doll herself shows no apparent signs of wear or tear. Her facial features are crisp and clear. The case she is sitting on has a couple of holes appearing, but nothing major. It looks like Annalee wanted to make sure the poodle stays fixed on this case, not only is it stitched on, but also you’ll notice a tack/small nail is apparent. These dolls individually retailed in the region of $3.00 - $5.95 and with accessories up to $9.95. |
